HERE ARE SOME OF THE BIKE SHOPS THAT AND CYCLING CLUBS AND RUNNING CLUBS THAT ARE WORKING WITH US AND HAVE INVITED US TO OUR EVENTS. OUR MOST DEDICATED CYCLING CLUBS IN EL PASO. THEY ARE EL PASO BICYCLE CLUB, LOST DOG, MIDDLEE& OF NOWHERE, CRITICAL MASS. THE RUN CLUBS ARE LIVED THREE ATHLETICS, COFFEE POSSE, QUEEN OF THE MOUNTAIN AND A FEW OTHERS. AS WE MOVE FORWARD FOR MORE OF THE CLUBS ARE JOINING U& TO HELP. WE HAVE. WE HAVE ALREADY HAD THREE EVENTS. THESE ARE MONTHLY EVENTS HELD THE SECOND SATURDAY OF EVERY MONTH. OUR FIRST CLUB EVENT HAD ABOUT 200 OR 300 CYCLISTS CYCLES. ALL ALL EVENTS, ALL LEVELS, ABOUT 70 RUNNERS. ON THE SECOND ONE, WE HAD ABOUT 125 TO 150 CYCLISTS AND 30 TO 40 RUNNERS. OUR. ONN& OUR THIRD, WE TEAM UP WITH EL PASO DEL NORTE FOUNDATION ON THE PLAYA DREAM TRAIL, AND WE HAD ABOUT 100 CYCLISTS AND ABOUT 30& RUNNERS. SOME OF OUR GOALS WITH THE ORGANIZATION. THE COMMUNITY REACH OUT AND INVOLVEMENT AND CREATE A FUN, SAFE AND HEALTHY, CLEAN, COOL CITY. WE PROMOTE HEALTH AND WELLNESS MAINLY. CYCLING AND RUNNING ARE ONE OFF& THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAYS TO INCORPORATE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY INTO DAILY LIFE. WE ENCOURAGE SOCIAL CONNECTION. CYCLING AND RUNNING PROMOTES A SENSE OF COMMUNITY AND ENCOURAGE ENCOURAGES SOCIAL INTERACTION. ONE OF THE MAIN, YOU KNOW, THINGS THAT WE WANT TO DO IS BOOST THE LOCAL ECONOMIES BECAUSE BY CYCLING AND RUNNING CITIES, BY BY PROMOTING CYCLING AND CITIES, IT GENERATES A SIGNIFICANT ECONOMIC BENEFIT FOR LOCAL BUSINESSES AND COMMUNITIES. CYCLISTS AND RUNNERS ARE MORE LIKELY TO STOP AT SMALL SHOPS, CAFES, MARKETS AND WE THEY INCREASE FOOT TRAFFIC AND SALES IN NEIGHBORHOODS AND WE INSPIRE FUTURE GENERATIONS. CYCLING AND RUNNING FRIENDLY, MAKING CITIES FRIENDLY FOR CYCLING AND RUNNERS SETS AN EXAMPLE FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS. INSTILLING VALUES AND SUSTAINABILITY, SUSTAINABILITY, HEALTH ANDD& COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT. IT PROMOTES SUSTAINABLE URBAN DEVELOPMENT, INVESTING IN CYCLING AND RUNNING INFRASTRUCTURE CONTRIBUTES TOO& THE LONG TERM DEVELOPMENT OFF& MORE THAN SUSTAINABLE CITIES. WE HAVE CURRENTLY HAD DIALOGS WITH& SOME OF THE CITIES. ORGANIZATIONS LIKE VISION ZERO, EL PASO COUNTY, THE CITY OF EL PASO LIVE ACTIVE, EL PASO CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT, CITY OF EL& PASO, AND PASO DEL NORTE TRAIL. THIS IS KIND OF OUR SCHEDULE THAT WE HAVE SO FAR FOR THE YEAR. AS YOU CAN SEE, IT'SS& FILLED UP. EACH ORGANIZATION TOOK A WRITER OR AN EVENT FOR THAT MONTH, AND WE WOULD LIKE T& PROMOTE THE JULY EVENT HERE IN HORIZON, TEAMING UP WITH A QUALITY SUPPLY WHICH IS VERY NEAR TO THE HORIZON TO HORIZON CITY. AND THAT'S WHERE WE WOULD LIKE FOR YOU GUYS TO CONSIDER US DOING AN EVENT. IF LEAVING AND FINISHING HERE IN THE HORIZON CITY. AND BEFORE EVERY RIDE WE GO THROUGH EACH ONE OF THEM AND WE TEACH BEGINNERS HOW TO RIDE IN TRAFFIC. AND ALSO WE ARE BIG PROMOTERS OF FOR DRIVERS TO STAY ALERT ON THE LOOKOUT FOR CYCLISTS. AND THIS IS ALSO TXDOT BICYCLE SAFETY. WE ARE ALSO ENCOURAGING THE CITIES TO LOOK INTO WORKING. AND INSTALLING WHAT WE CALL BIKE. WHAT DO YOU CALL THIS BIKE STATION? BIKE STATIONS? YEAH, WE ALREADY HAVE SOME BIKE STATIONS ON THE FRANKLIN MOUNTAINS WHERE MOUNTAIN MOUNTAIN BIKERS RIDE,,& AND THEY HAVE BASIC TOOLS AND PUMPS, YOU KNOW, TO HAVE, YOU KNOW, SAFE WORK ON YOUR BIKES. WE ALREADY HAVE A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT IS CALLED THE BIKE WELLNESS AND ART CENTER, AND THESE ARE THE CONTACTS ANDD& THEIR PHONE NUMBERS. ROBERTO ALREADY CONTACTED US AND TALKED WITH MOST OF US. HE HAS MOST OF THE NAMES AND THE NUMBERS OF ALL OF US. AND WE WOULD LOVE FOR YOU TO CONSIDER US AND DOING AN [00:10:06] EVENT IN YOUR CITY. REALLY, IT HAPPENED IN LESS THAN A MONTH AND WE HAD ALL THESE BIKE CLUBS AND RUNNING CLUBS SHOW UP, AND WE ASKED THEM TO TAKE A RESPONSIBILITY FOR A MONTH, AND ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS HOST IT, TELL US WHERE ITT& WAS GOING TO START, GIVE US A ROUTE, AND THEN WE WOULD SUPPORT THEM WITH, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU SAW ALL THE ORANGE AND YELLOW VESTS. SO THOSE ARE OUR LEAD RIDERS. YOU KNOW, WE'RE NONPROFIT OUT OF OUR OWN POCKETS. WE GOT WALKIE TALKIES,& WE GOT WHISTLES, WE GOT VESTS, AND ALL WE WANT TO DO IS PROMOTE CYCLING, NOT JUST IN EL PASO, ALL OUR SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES. SO WE'RE HOPING TO START OUR RIDES FROM ALL OVER THE COMMUNITY. SO THAT PEOPLE ARE AWARE THAT THERE'S A BIG CYCLING COMMUNITY IN THE EL PASO AREA. IT'S NOT JUST A COUPLE OF RIDERS HERE AND THERE. WE WANTED TO GET EVERYONE TOGETHER EVERY SECOND SATURDAY OF THE MONTH, AND THEN JUST GET OUT THERE AND SHOW ALL OUR NEIGHBORHOOD COMMUNITIES THAT WE EXIST, AND THERE ARE A LOT OF US WANTING TO RIDE ALL OVER EL PASO. WE WERE JUST TELLING MR. AVILA EARLIER THATT& THE PARK YOU HAVE, I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT'S CALLED. WHAT IS THE PARK THAT YOU SAID? IT'S THE HORIZON. MESA. OKAY. SO WE CALL IT MOAB BECAUSE OF THAT ROCK THAT YOU ALL HAVE THERE. WE ACTUALLY RIDE ALL THE WAY FROM LOUELLA OR TARGET. WE RIDE ALL THE WAY UP THERE. WE LOVE THAT PARK. WE THINK OF ALL THE PARKS THAT WE SEE. IT IS SO FAMILY ORIENTED. WE LOVE TO SEE ALL THE KIDS OUT THERE WITH THEIR FAMILIES PLAYING FOOTBALL AND ALL KINDS OF STUFF. THAT'S OUR FAVORITE PARK TO RIDE TO, ACTUALLY, AND WE TAKE PICTURES THERE AND EVERYBODY KNOWS IT. WELL, IN OUR CYCLING LITTLE COMMUNITY AS MOAB. SO WE SAY,,& OH, WE'RE RIDING TO MOAB TODAY AND THEY ALL KNOW WHAT IT IS. THE FIRST TIME WE ACTUALLY TOOK PICTURES THERE, WE CROPPED IT AND EVERYBODY THOUGHT WE WERE ACTUALLY IN MOAB, UTAH. AND SO WHAT WE WANT TO DO IS JUST PROMOTE IT ALL OVER THE AREAS. IF YOU ALL TEAM UP WITH QUALITY SUPPLY, WE WOULD RIDE SOMEWHERE OVER HERE IN HORIZON. OF COURSE, WE'RE TRYING TO GET AND I THINK YOU MENTIONED THAT YOU HAVE SOME CYCLISTS, POLICEMEN THAT COULD COME ALONG WITH US AND JUST HELP US, YOU KNOW, CONTROL TRAFFIC. WE'RE REALLY CAREFUL WHEN WE RIDE AND WE TRY TO PROTECT ALL OUR RIDERS. WE HAVE THREE LEVEL& OF RIDERS. WE HAVE 18 TO 20 MILE. WE CALL THEM THE SPEEDSTERS. AND THEN WE HAVE, YOU KNOW, SOME THAT ARE NOT AS FAST. WE CALL THEM THE DOMINGUITO. SO WE LIKE TO STOP AND TAKE PICTURES. WE DON'T JUS& LIKE TO GO FROM POINT A TO POINT B AND BACK AS FAST AS WE CAN. WE ACTUALLY LIKE TO ENJOY THE RIDE, AND THEN WE HAVE BEGINNER RIGHTS ON THE TRAIL. WE ACTUALLY HAD A DAD PULLING HIS LITTLE CHILD ON THE, YOU KNOW, AND IT'S JUST FAMILIES AND LITTLE KIDS AND ALL LEVELS OF RIDERS AND THAT RIGHT THAT WE CALL THE BEGINNER, RIGHT? SO WE'RE JUST HOPING TOO& PROMOTE THE, YOU KNOW, THAT WELLNESS BEING OUT THERE. AND THEN WE HAVE OUR RUNNERS OF COURSE NOT A RUNNER MYSELF, BUT WE HAVE, LIKE WE SAID, ABOUT 6070 RUNNERS AVERAGE THAT COME OUT AND THEY COME UP WITH THEIR OWN TRAILS. AND WHERE ARE WE WRITING? WHOEVER'S HOSTING THAT RUN CLUB OR TELL US, OKAY, THIS& IS GOING TO BE OUR ROUTE AND WE'LL HAVE A THREE, A FIVE AND A TEN MILE OR THREE, FIVE AND EIGHT MILE RUN. AND WE DO THAT EVERY SECOND SATURDAY OF THE MONTH. SO WE'RE HOPING THAT YOU ALL WILL TRY WANT TO JOIN IN WITH US AND GET HORIZON TO SEE OH MY GOSH, THERE'S A LOT OF CYCLISTS. THIS IS JUST COME TOGETHER. AND RIGHT. THERE ARE A LOT OF CYCLING AND RUNNING EVENTS ALL OVER THE CITY, BUT THAT CHARGE A LOT OF MONEY. WE'RE NOT CHARGING ANYTHING. WE JUST WANT TO GET THE COMMUNITY OUT THERE TO RIDE AND RUN WITH US. THAT'S IT. I THINK THE LAST RUN, SHE HAD MAYBE A HUNDRED OR MORE RUNNERS. WOW. AND THEY JUST RUN ALL OVER DOWNTOWN. AND SHE'S TAKEN HER FIRST TWO MONTHLY EVENTS OR WHATEVER. THEY WERE FEBRUARY AND MARCH, AND SHE CAME UP WITH A ROUTE THEY WERE GOING TO RUN AND THE DISTANCES, AND THEY STRETCHED AND GOT READY AND THE& THEY WENT RUNNING. AND SO AND THEY WOULD ALSO BE JOINING US O& THE EVENT. YEAH. SO I HOPE YOU ALL ARE JUST AS EXCITED AS WE ARE ABOUT DOING THIS. LIKE I SAID, WE DON'T GET PAID FOR ANY OF THIS. I'M NOT A SPEEDSTER, SO I GO ABOUT 12 TO 15 MILES AN HOUR, BUT I CAN DO A DISTANCE, RIGHT? NOT AT THIRSTY, BUT IT'S JUST SOMETHING THAT I'M VERY HEALTHY AND HAPPY TO SAY. LIKE WHEN I RETIRED FROM TEACHING, MY HUSBAND AND I TRIED TO GETT& HEALTH INSURANCE AND THEY. I WOULDN'T QUALIFY BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE A PRIMARY DOCTOR. AND I SAID, WELL, I THINK I'M LUCKY. I DON'T NEED A PRIMARY DOCTOR, AND THEY WOULDN'T INSURE ME. SO CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT IF YOU'RE REALLY HEALTHY, YOU HAVE& A REALLY HARD TIME DOING THEM? SO ANYWAY, YOU KNOW, IT PROMOTES BEING HEALTHY AND STAYING ACTIVE AND NOT BEING ATTACHED TO TIME. SO YOU JUST HAVE TO GET OUT THERE AND DO IT. THE PROBLEM WE ALL HAVE, WHETHER YOU'RE RUNNING OR CYCLING, IS THE BIKE& LANES ARE DIRTY. THE RUNNING LANES, IF THERE'S A RUNNING TRAIL, ARE NOT ALWAYS CLEAN. SO THAT MEANS THE RIDERS ARE GOING TO TAKE THE LINK, MEANING THAT THEY'RE GOING TO GO INTO THE STREET, GET OFF THE BIKE LANE BECAUSE IT'S SAFER. EVEN THOUGH& THERE'S CARS, IT'S SAFER IF THE BIKE LANES ARE CLEAN OR YOU HAVE DEDICATED BIKE PATHS AND RUNNING PATHS, YOUR CITIZENS ARE SAFER. THIS PROMOTES THEM TO WANT TOO& GET OUT. RIGHT NOW, A LOT WON'T GET OUT BECAUSE THEY'RE AFRAIDD& OF THE CARS. THERE'S NOT RUNNING PATHS FOR EVERYTHING. THE RUNNERS ARE ON THE STREETS JUST& AS MUCH AS WE ARE. SO IT'S A CLEAN AREA. IT'S WIDE ENOUGH FOR EVERYONE. YOU HAVE THE CARS, HAVE THEIR SPOT. RUNNERS AND RIDERS HAVE THEIR SPOT. YOU HAVE A SAFER COMMUNITY, SAFER COMMUNITIES, MORE PEOPLE OUT THERE. AND THAT'S THE BIG PART ABOUT THIS. WE'RE OUT THERE WITH 100 PLUS BIKES, ABOUT 40, 50, 60, MAYBE 100 RUNNERS. AND IF IT'S SAFE, WE'RE ALL HAPPY. IT WAS DANGEROUS. YOU KIND OF LOOK AROUND. SO WHENEVER YOU'RE PLANNING SOMETHING, MAKE SUREE& YOUR BIKE LANES ARE WIDE ENOUGH. THE LAW, I THINK, STATES THATT& THE CARS HAVE TO BE AT LEAST THREE FEET AWAY FROM YOU. A MINIMUM OF BIKE LANE IS FIVE FEET WIDE TO SIX FEET WIDE, PLUS THE THREE FEET. SO YOU GOT TOO& PLAN YOUR STREETS THAT WAY. A LOT OF THE RUNNERS, LIKE NANCY'S GROUP AND ALL THE OTHER RUNNERS IN THE PAST, THEY RUN IN THE STREET BECAUSE THE SIDEWALKS ARE TOO NARROW. SO IF YOU HAVE THE 5 TO 6 LANE, BIKE WIDTH LANE PLUS THE THREE FEET, THERE IS ROOM. IF YOU DON'T HAVE THAT WHERE YOU GET TO THE BIKE AND IT'S ONLY TWO FEET WIDE, IT'S DANGEROUS.
